Peter Soar, our founding Member, began Ragland in 1973 when he decided to start selling fabric by mail order. He would travel to the residential areas of Durban with his samples and take on his business, door to door. He then grew to having a few sales members to help out as the fabric sales increased and this of course, as time went on, drew him in to opening a small retail store. The business is currently run by Peter’s son Jordan. With the textile industry in such turmoil in South Africa business has truly changed radically. We offer a variety of fabrics from apparel fabrics craft and quilting fabrics to curtain and decor. Ragland also has taken on a cut length business partnering with some huge names like Upholstery and General Stuart Graham and Fabric Library to name only a few.Haberdashery and sewing notions still form a huge part of our business. All these products are available for retail, as well as a growing wholesale side of the business. The final value added ingredient to the business is the in house manufacture of Roman blinds table linen as well as napkins to the hospitality trade, and Curtaining offered to the public along with friendly staff able to call on you in your home to assist you with a measure up as well as help with advice on bringing your dream to reality at a affordable rate. Peter now has bestowed a large portion of the businesses day to day runnings over to Jordan but you will still find Peter with a tape measure around his neck! Meet Jordan, together with with his father Peter, Jordan owns and manages Ragland. Jordan’s keen business sense and constant finger on the pulse in the fabric industry ensures that the latest trends and products are constantly visible on the busy floors of Ragland. Erin is responsible for all the admin as well as the day to day runnings of the business, assisting Jordan directly. She also heads all the HR issues and books all the installations. Shereen is the happy smile that will greet you on the floor! He does call outs and measure together with Jordan for restorations and refurbs. Richard works hand in hand with Jordan, managing daily activities.
