Anglo-Alpha also acquired shares in Pioneer Ready Mixed and in Ready Mixed Concrete (Reef) in Based on Alpha Centauri, the brightest and closest star to earth, the new name and symbol was seen to reflect a new vision and great potential for the company and is still in use to this day. The launch of the new brand, AfriSam, in 2008, put the company on the map as a leading black-controlled construction materials group in southern Africa and the A-Star symbol, a legacy of the Alpha brand is still in use as the dominant logo for AfriSam.
